Anthony Colitti

Photography Class 2022

About Me

I'm Anthony. I've been an artist for as long as I could hold a pen. I've been striving to fill the gap between birth and death while our world keeps spinning faster and faster. Photography was just another stone on my path.

My
Inspiration

Zdzisław Beksiński has been an inspiration to me in my paintings since I started, his photography also caught my attention when I started this photo class. I loved how his surreal drawings and paintings translated into photography and was inspired to try and get my drawing and painting style in my photographs.

As I kept taking photos, I began to understand his stance on photography. The art form is very limiting and not in an appealing way. It was more limited by expectations than outcomes. Photographs are expected to be displays of conventional beauty, not artistic integrity. Photos that would be great done in ink or charcoal will be disappointing as a photograph because it's not abstract / surreal enough to be art, or not enough like the old masters to be good photography.
Beksiński had a quote that I didn't understand for the longest time. I'll abbreviate, I am done with this art form as it has limited me for as long as I can stand.
